Eric Olson debuts his new "Transformations" work at the 2010 Chianciano International Award for Digital and Photographic Art, at the Museo d’Arte di Chianciano Terme, Italy during the week of September 18-25, 2010.  Being shown are "Gold Hot Rays" and "Aquanta 8," seen to right.  Both artworks are large 36" x 24" archival pigment prints on aluminum published in editions of five.

Eric's transformation process begins with one of his own photographs, which,  through 18 individual stages, is "moved around, twirled, and stretched like taffy," until the final result is attained.  The process is an attempt to liberate the spirit and energy of an image by eliminating literal visual cues while developing found shapes and colors until the image takes on a new character and becomes a coherent statement on its own.

The juried International Award exhibition has attracted wide attention in the art world, with works from artists of 35 countries.  Eminent art critics,  photographers and journalists such as Gerard Bruneau, who worked for years with Andy Warhol, and Lonnie Schlein, Photo Editor for the New York Times, will serve as award jurors.  Selected pieces will also be exhibited in London at the Gagliardi Gallery on King's Road.

what it does, not what it relates
