Eric Olson New Work
June 17 - August 23, 2010

Eric Olson's first European solo exhibition will open on June 17, 2010 at Galerie Hörnan in the ancient city of Falun, Sweden.

"The exhibition's title, ‘Smått och Gott’, in Swedish means ‘small and good,’ usually a plate of tasty delights like cakes or small dishes," according to curator Birgitta Hellström, "which seemed perfect for this delectable sampling of Eric Olson photographs."

A good example is "Sky, Sliced," (seen to left on the exhibition poster) which portrays slices of the same scene viewed from different angles. The image is an attempt to integrate differing but literally true views of reality into one image.

"My goal is to capture universal beauty and metaphor as it actually exists in the world around us," says Eric. "For example, 'Sky, Sliced' was shot as found, through a jalousie window, and was not 'photoshopped' or composed of different images." For more, see the online exhibition.

The City and Gallery
Falun was built around a copper mine opened in the 11th century, which is owned by the oldest continuously operated enterprise in the world. Memories of the mine are reflected in a red pigment called Falu rödfärg (Falun Red Paint) which is hugely popular throughout Sweden.

Gallerie Hörnan is both a public gallery and renowned print-making workshop. The Gallerie is directed by Modhir Ahmed, an internationally acclaimed artist who exhibits widely in Europe and the Middle East.
